Dominant power play propels Rangers over Otters

The Kitchener Rangers dominated the power play Saturday night, securing the 3-1 win over the Erie Otters.

Sam O’Reilly took advantage of an early penalty by Erie to give the Rangers a 1-0 lead at 1:12 in opening period. Dylan Edwards and Jack Pridham also capitalized on the man advantage, scoring less than a minute apart in the second.

Jackson Schouten of Erie managed to get his team on the board in the third period to avoid the shutout, but the team could not muster any more offense.

Dylan Edwards received first star honours on the night, recording a point on each of Kitchener’s goals.

With the win, Kitchener matches its head-to-head record against the Otters from last season, going 5-1-0-0. As of Sunday, the Rangers remain at the top of the Western Conference with a record of 39-12-4-2 and 84 points with 11 games remaining in the regular season.

The Rangers will have a busy week ahead of them with three games over the next week, starting on Wednesday against the Guelph Storm. They will then welcome a pair of teams to The Aud over the weekend, the Brampton Steelheads on Friday and then the London Knights on Sunday.

Puck drop on Wednesday at the Sleeman Centre is just after 6:30p.m.
