Two arrested in connection with 24 copper theft incidents

Two men from Kitchener are now facing a list of charges as Waterloo regional police continue to investigate a string of copper theft and property damage incidents across Kitchener and Waterloo.

Police said their service received “numerous” reports of copper theft and damage between September and November of last year, largely targeting HVAC and air-conditioning units at local businesses.

In total, 15 of those incidents are said to have been identified in the area of King Street North and Northfield Drive, while an additional nine reported incidents came from the areas of Shirley Avenue and Riverbend Drive in Kitchener.

On Dec. 4, police arrested a 55-year-old man and a 34-year-old man in connection with their ongoing investigation.

Those men were held in custody for a bail hearing, facing charges including:

  • Break and enter commit indictable offence
  • Mischief over $5,000
  • Disguise with intent
  • Possession of stolen property
  • Possession of break in instruments
