Second leash-free dog park opens in Waterloo

More options for dog owners in Waterloo.

The city has officially opened its second leash-free dog park, this one on the west side of the city.

The park is located at 265 Copper St., just behind the Waterloo Costco near Columbia Street West.

The 7,000 square metre park is open each day from sunrise to sunset, featuring parking, a fenced area, seating and a designated dog waste unit.

“With the growing number of dog owners in Waterloo, this new dog park adds a welcome amenity to Waterloo’s west side,” said Robin Milne, Waterloo’s director of parks, forestry and cemetery services.

“Dogs and their owners now have a new place to visit while staying active and enjoying the outdoors.”

The other leash-free park in Waterloo is on the other end of the city, at Bechtel Park.

There is also a temporary leash-free dog park in Waterloo Park.

Discussions and planning are still underway to eventually open a permanent leash-free park in the core of the city.
