Waterloo council to discuss massive development by RIM Park

A brand new subdivision could be coming to the northeast end of Waterloo by RIM Park.

The proposed site is located at 400 Millennium Blvd., just south of Country Squire Road, and is 15.19 hectares in size. The developer, Activa Holdings, has plans to use the site for a mixed-use development consisting of residential and commercial buildings and a new park.

An initial proposal to Waterloo City Council shows the development could build between 583 to 634 units, including apartments, townhouses, semi-detached and single detached homes. If approved, the project would be completed over four phases, but a timeline has not been provided.

Amenities in the area around the site include RIM Park and the Eastside Branch of the Waterloo Public Library, and a small plaza at the corner of Millennium Boulevard and Oak Park Drive.

Currently, the land is being listed as Vacant-Agricultural for crops.

Before any shovels can go into the ground, council will need to approve the development and various bylaw amendments to coordinate with the plans. Currently, the largest multi-unit building is proposed at six storeys.

Waterloo council will discuss the development at their meeting on Oct. 27.
