It was a night they would much rather forget as the Kitchener Rangers suffered their first home game loss of the season to the London Knights.
London came out swinging Friday night with two goals in the first period by Logan Hawery and Julian Brown. Their lead only got bigger in the second with three more goals in the second period to take a commanding 5-0 lead after 40 minutes.
Rangers’ goalie Christian Kirsch was pulled after the second period for Jason Schaubel after allowing five goals.
Jack Pridham got the Rangers on the board early in the third period with assists from Christian Humphreys and Cameron Reid.
London added one more goal minutes later by Max Crete to regain their five goal lead, leading to a final score of 6-1.
Friday’s game was the second of Rivalry Week. The Rangers started strong winning over the Guelph Storm on Tuesday.
After the game, head coach Jussi Ahokas said the team needs to make several adjustments before going up against the Knights again on Sunday.
“We have to clean up our game,” he said. “Lots of defensive mistakes; we didn’t win enough puck battles and stick details. There is a lot to be better at.”
The Rangers will get Saturday off to regroup before heading down the 401 for a rematch against the Knights on Sunday to wrap up Rivalry Week.
Puck drop is at 2 p.m.
