A high school in Kitchener was placed in a temporary hold and secure on Friday.
A notice on Eastwood Collegiate Institute’s website said the secondary school was directed by police to go into a hold and secure around 11:45 a.m. due to an investigation in the area.
The hold and secure ended about an hour later.
“As part of our hold and secure protocols, students and staff remained inside and all exterior doors were locked so no one could enter or exit the building,” wrote Eastwood principal Jeff Klinck. “Staff and students were safe inside the school or their portables at all times. Our school remained in hold and secure until we were assured by WRPS that it was safe to return to our regular school routines.”
Waterloo regional police confirmed they responded to the area due to a reported weapons incident, but no further details were immediately available.
Police noted their investigation remains active and ongoing.
