Thanksgiving schedule changes and closures for Waterloo Region

It’s already a busy weekend with Oktoberfest celebrations in full swing across the Region.
Monday is Thanksgiving and residents of Waterloo Region can expect some closures and service disruptions.
Retail and attractions:
Most grocery stores are closed Monday.
Malls are closed Monday.
Many drug stores remain open on Monday.
LCBO and Beer Store locations are closed Monday, while some Wine Rack locations are open.
The Ken Seiling Waterloo Region Museum and Schneider Haus National Historic Site will be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The McDougall Cottage Historic Site will be open from 12 to 4 p.m. on Oct. 13.
Client Service Centres:
- All regional offices including Airport Administrative and Home Child Care offices will be closed.
- The Service First Call Centre remains open 24/7.
Green bin, recycling and garbage collection:
- Curbside pickup from green bin, garbage and recycling will not be affected by the holiday.
- Transfer stations for residential drop-off at both the Cambridge and Waterloo Waste Management sites will be closed Oct. 13.
Transit Services:
- All Grand River Transit will operate on a holiday service schedule.
- MobilityPLUS trips will automatically be cancelled for Oct. 13. Customers who want to keep their trips can call 519-744-2241.
- CRT Customer Service Centres will be closed.
- Routes 1, 6, 8, 20, and 204 will be on detour during the Oktoberfest Parade on Oct. 13 between 9:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.
Public Health:
- All Public Health clinics will be closed.
Waterloo Region Libraries:
- All branches will be closed on Monday.
