Wilmot seeking members for Prime Minister’s Path steering committee

The Township of Wilmot has opened applications for anyone interested in joining the committee that will guide the next phase of the Prime Minister’s Path project.

Back in July, the township council voted unanimously to relaunch the project after it was shelved in 2021 because of controversy surrounding the legacy of Sir John A. MacDonald and others with ties to colonialism and the residential school system. The Sir John A. statue was vandalized with red paint in 2020 before being removed a year later.

Part of the discussions that led to the decision to renew the project was the creation of a Community Steering Committee who’s main objective is to ensure the project adheres to its core pillars: funding, inclusion, education, location/site design, and Truth and Reconciliation.

The committee will be made up of a diverse group of volunteers including community members, subject matter experts and professionals. Part of the committee’s responsibilities will also be to develop inclusive, historically grounded educational materials to accompany the statues.

Applications can be submitted online. The deadline to apply is Oct. 31, 2025.
