Rangers clinch 2-0 start of the season with a win over the Otters

The strong start continues for the Kitchener Rangers, as they extend their early season record to 2-0 after a resounding win over the Erie Otters Saturday.

Following a scoreless first period, Kitchener’s special teams would get them on the board with a power play goal by forward Haeden Ellis, his first of the season.

Just over two minutes later, forward Matheas Stark would capitalize on the penalty kill with a shorthanded goal to make it 2-0. That goal would also be a first for Stark this season.

Erie would make it close with a goal by Garrett Frazer in the third period. But Stark responded with one more to an empty net to get the 3-1 victory.

Stark finished the night with three points (two goals and one assist), earning him first star honours. After the game, he called the match a “great win for the team.”

“There’s always been a bit of a rivalry against Erie. Especially a couple of years ago when we played them in the playoffs, it really intensified, and it keeps carrying on season after season,” he said.

Saturday’s win marked the sixth consecutive win for Kitchener over the Otters since October 2024. It also comes off of Friday’s electric comeback against the Brantford Bulldogs.

The Rangers will be back at the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium on Friday to welcome back Erie for a rematch. Tickets are available here.
