There’s been another spike in drug poisonings in Guelph and Wellington County.
Last Friday, the Wellington Guelph Drug Strategy issued a health alert as there were 21 overdoses and one fatality reported in the span of a week.
Another week passed and the coalition said there were 26 additional incidents, including another death.
The total has risen to 46 drug poisonings and two fatalities since Aug. 21.
The updated health alert said, “This is more than double the number recorded during the same period last year.”
Officials believe the rise in overdoses is linked to various sedatives and veterinary tranquilizers, and substances that appear beige or light yellow in colour are of particular concern.
Drug users are urged to take precautions as the unregulated supply is described as being highly unpredictable and highly potent.
