Former Laurier quarterback cut by Packers, reportedly eyeing a chance in New York

A Canadian quarterback is reportedly on his way to the Big Apple in his quest to make an NFL roster this season.

Former Laurier Golden Hawk Taylor Elgersma signed with the Green Bay Packers as an undrafted free agent back in May, but the Canadian quarterback has parted ways with the Wisconsin team after showing what he’s capable of in the pre-season.

Elgersma made three pre-season appearances for the Packers, completing 16 of 24 passes for 166 yards and adding a touchdown.

In spite of those performances, Green Bay decided to cut Elgersma on Tuesday, and he is now a free agent.

Elgersma is reportedly eyeing a move to New York and has lined up a workout with the Giants on Thursday.

The 6’5″ quarterback has plenty of pedigree, including winning the 2024 Hec Crighton Trophy as the most outstanding Canadian football player in U Sports.

Elgersma was also selected in the second round by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the CFL draft in April.
