Hockey tournament honouring late Ayr Centennials captain held this week

A hockey community tradition honouring and remembering a young player gets underway on Wednesday.

At the North Dumfries Community Centre (NDCC) in Ayr at 7 p.m., the puck drops on the fourth annual Eli Palfreyman Memorial Tournament.

In 2022, during the intermission of a preseason game, the Ayr Centennials captain died after collapsing in the dressing room.

He was just 20-years-old.

The annual tournament featuring eight teams is in his honour and will run until Sunday.

The first game is Wednesday night with the defending champs, the Cens themselves hosting the Cambridge RedHawks at 7 p.m.
