It’s been a long and winding road for the Cambridge Food Bank, which is marking 40 years of serving the community.
It all started in 1985 with humble beginnings, as food was initially distributed from the trunk of a car. Now, the food bank at 54 Ainslie St. S. supports more than 2,000 people and families every month.
In addition to the community pantry and emergency hampers, the food bank is also committed to education and advocacy work, prompting the slogan, “More than a Food Bank.”
The organization is reflecting on the past four decades and wants your help to tell the story.
Whether you’ve volunteered, donated, worked, or were supported during difficult times, people are being asked to share their memories to be featured in an anniversary segment.
You can submit your memory by clicking here, or by emailing info@cambridgefoodbank.org.
In a post on social media, the Cambridge Food Bank provided the following list of examples:
- A moment when you saw the food bank make a real difference in someone’s life
- If you’ve worked or volunteered at the food bank, share a memory of your first day, what surprised you, moved you, or stuck with you
- A small moment that felt big, a smile, a thank you, or a quiet act of kindness
- Reflections from someone who has used the food bank, what it meant to you, and what you’d want others to understand
- How you’ve seen the food bank grow or change over the years
