Racial comments prompt Waterloo hate investigation

Regional police are now investigating what they’re calling a hate-motivated incident in the City of Waterloo.

It was just after 6 p.m. on Monday night when police say the victim of that hate incident was approached in the lobby of a residential building in the area of King Street North and Columbia Street West in Waterloo.

It’s alleged the victim was approached by an unknown man, who began making “racial and derogatory comments” directed at them.

No one was physically harmed as a result of the interaction.

The suspect has been described as a white man in his 50s, roughly six feet tall with a slim build.

Police said that suspect had grey hair with a beard, and was last seen wearing a dark hoodie with white shoes, and a blue / black baseball hat.
