Regional police crack down on Cambridge car meet

Police responded to what they call an “unsanctioned car rally” in Cambridge over the weekend and laid several charges.

Waterloo regional police said reports were coming in around 9 p.m. on Friday about excessive speeds and noise in the area of Sheldon Drive and Conestoga Boulevard.

Those complaints are said to have come in from local businesses, with reports of roughly 200 vehicles in the area seen speeding, blocking driveways and making noise.

Officers made their way out to the area, conducting several traffic stops and laid 13 charges.

Police took to social media to list the several charges laid at the event, including unnecessary noise; improper muffler; obstruct plate; fair to surrender insurance card; vehicle modified – fail to apply for new permit, and more.

Anyone that witnesses a large unsanctioned car gathering is encouraged to contact police at 519-570-9777.

Anonymous tips can also be provided through Waterloo Regional Crime Stoppers.
