The results are in for Canada Road Safety Week, and it was a busy campaign for police in the region.
The Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS) says 214 charges were laid in seven days. More than 40 per cent were for speeding, and there were 20 for impaired driving.
Among the other charges were 13 for careless driving, seven for stunt driving, and 12 for distracted driving.
While the campaign is now over, police are hoping road users choose to make safety a priority all year long by driving sober, slowing down, staying focused, and buckling up.
“The number of charges laid during Canada Road Safety Week highlights the ongoing need for awareness, education, and enforcement,” said Staff Sgt. Scott Griffiths with WRPS Traffic Services Unit in a release. “These numbers are more than statistics – they represent real risks on our roads. Every driver has a role to play in preventing collisions.”
Canada Road Safety Week ran from May 13 to May 19.
