Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police are praising lifejackets for saving the lives of three people over the long weekend.
Saturday night, a canoe capsized in cold water at the Rockwood Conservation Area.
The three people who went overboard were stranded in the water, but because they had lifejackets on, they were able to climb onto a small island and wait for help.
They were stuck for about an hour until a boat, operated by Guelph firefighters, was able to come and get them.
Two of the people rescued were treated at the scene while the third was taken to hospital as a precaution.
“The OPP would like to remind all boaters the importance of the use of properly functioning fitted and approved lifejackets and Personal Floatation Devices,” said OPP in a media release.
