There will soon be a new police chief in town — temporarily.
The Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS) launched its annual Chief for a Day contest. The opportunity is open to all local students in Grades 5, 6 and 7.
Any interested youths can submit a short essay, video, or artwork which outlines what they would do to make a positive impact in the community if they were chosen to be Chief for a Day.
Along with a Junior Police Chief, two Junior Deputy Chiefs will also be selected.
The deadline for submissions is May 13, and they can be dropped off at WRPS headquarters on Maple Grove Road, sent through WRPS social media channels, or by emailing publicinfo@wrps.on.ca.
The winners will be announced May 16 and they’ll report for duty on June 10.
