Two collisions reported within minutes across Cambridge, Waterloo

By Justin Koehler

A pair of collisions were reported Saturday morning within just five minutes of each other meant a busy start to the day for Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS).

The first collision took place at 9:15 a.m. in Cambridge. Officers were called regarding a single-vehicle crash on Kossuth Road.

When they arrived, police found that a truck had lost control, swerved off the road, and slammed into a tree.

The driver and lone occupant of the vehicle was sent to a local hospital. Police closed off the area between Fountain Street North and Beaverdale Road for multiple hours as cleanup and the initial investigation got underway. The area has since been reopened.

The second collision was reported just five minutes later, at 9:20 a.m. in Waterloo. Police say it was a hit-and-run involving a building.

Officers arrived at the corner of King Street South and Erb Street West after calls described a black Toyota Camry that had struck the side of a building in the area. When police arrived, there was no vehicle at the scene.

Officers were able to locate the vehicle in question just a short distance away.

The 28-year-old man from Kitchener is now facing a series of charges centred around careless driving and failing to remain at the scene. No injuries were reported.

Anyone with information or dash-cam footage of either incident is asked to reach out to WRPS.
