Drivers caught going almost 200 km/h in local overnight enforcement: OPP

It was a busy evening on local highways on Wednesday as both members of Cambridge Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) stopped four lead-foot drivers across the Region of Waterloo.

Sharing the news on X, the OPP Highway Safety Division said four different drivers were charged with stunt driving, speeding and careless driving after enforcement in the following areas:

  • Highway 7/8 East in Kitchener
  • Westbound lanes of Highway 401 near Hespeler Road
  • Westbound lanes of Highway 8 near Weber Street

According to OPP, two of those drivers were speeding in excess of 200km/h, with the other two that were knabbed came fairly close with speeds of 192km/h and 182km/h.

Those motorists also received 30-day license suspensions and a 14-day vehicle impound.

The ages of those drivers, and whether or not they happened to reside locally, was not disclosed.

In addition, OPP have also said that one novice driver also blew above zero on an Approved Screening Device (ASD).
