Concerns about the façade of a Waterloo elementary school have the building closed this week.
The closure at Elizabeth Ziegler Public School was originally planned for just two days, but on Wednesday afternoon, the public school board extended the closure to Friday, March 7.
The Waterloo District Public School Board (WRDSB) said additional structural testing was needed.
Over the nearly week long closure, students are learning virtually from home.
570 NewsRadio has reached out to the WRDSB for more information on the nature of the closure and concerns.
Around 450 students attend the JK to Grade 6 school on Moore Avenue South.
A release from the WRDSB said the closure was made “out of an abundance of caution for the safety and well-being of students and staff…We know that a school closure can be disruptive for students and families. Staff and contractors are working to open the school safely and as quickly as possible.”
Before and After School programs at the school are also closed.
Students will not be at the school next week, which marks March Break across the school board.
