Police discover loaded firearm during early morning assault in Waterloo

Waterloo Regional Police Service was awakened with an early morning disturbance call involving an alleged assault.
Officers were called to the area of King Street North and Young Street West around 1:45 a.m. on Saturday morning after receiving reports of physical altercation.
Upon arrival, officers report finding one person showing minor physical injuries. A 34-year-old Kitchener male was then placed under arrest. Upon searching the suspect, officers discovered a loaded firearm.

The man has now been charged with various offences including assault, unauthorized possession of a prohibited firearm, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
He was for a bail hearing while in police custody.
