‘Significant’ winter storm on the way for election day, weekend

Ballots won’t be the only thing falling on election day.

Plenty of snow in the forecast for Wednesday night through to Sunday in Waterloo Region.

“More snow on the way, I’m sorry to say, for Wednesday and Thursday, and then another round with colder air for Friday and Saturday,” said 570 NewsRadio’s Meteorologist Jill Taylor.

The snow is set to start on Wednesday evening, with 5-8 centimetres expected to fall throughout the night and into Thursday morning.

Taylor says the winter storm set to hit Waterloo Region on Friday and Saturday could be “significant” and she expects another 10 cm to fall.

Saturday and Sunday will bring cold winds to the region as well, with a low of -10 C on Saturday with 50 km/h winds coming out of the northwest, and lows of -16 C on Sunday with wind chills making it feel more like -26 C.
