Woman’s wallet stolen using distraction theft tactic, police warn

A woman was targeted by thieves using a distraction tactic to take her wallet, police believe.

Waterloo Regional Police Services (WRPS) are investigating after a theft took place on Feb. 19. The incident happened just after 12:45 p.m. in the area of Ottawa Street North and River Road East.

The victim was loading bags into her vehicle when she was approached by an unknown man who was telling her something was wrong with her rear tire. At that time another man approached the car from the opposite side and stole a wallet from inside her purse in the backseat.

Police also say a third man was involved as the lookout sitting in a red truck parked nearby.

Officers believe she was intentionally targeted while checking out at the store to get her banking card information.
