Victim hurt by armed robber after Kitchener store staff did not call police

What ended with a Kitchener man in handcuffs, and a stabbing victim in hospital, began with an alleged armed theft where store staff did not call police.

Officers said it began around 12:15, Wednesday afternoon, at a store around Highland Road West and Westmount Road West in Kitchener.

Police said a man went behind the counter, took some items, and tried to leave.

It’s alleged he pulled a knife on two employees when they tried to stop him. The suspect then fled the store and police say the store staff did not call them to report the crime.

About an hour later, in the same area, police say the same suspect stabbed a 23-year-old Kitchener man, who was able to run away.

He was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries.

Police got multiple calls about the stabbing and officers swarmed into the area and made the arrest.

A 25-year-old man Kitchener was arrested and charged with robbery with a weapon, aggavated assault, failing to comply with a release order, and more.

Police said he and the victim are known to each other.
