Ontario Health atHome CEO fired due to issues with medical supplies shortages

The head of the provincial agency responsible for home-care medical supplies has been fired.

Sources confirm to 680 NewsRadio that Ontario Health atHome CEO Cynthia Martineau has been let go after months of issues with the provincial agency which was under scrutiny for struggling to provide medical supplies to those who receive care at home.

Ontario Health atHome coordinates in-home and community-based care for thousands of patients across the province every day.

Home care patients and caregivers began to get notices last October that shipments of medical supplies were delayed and some shipments arrived incomplete.

The issues appear to stem from the Ford government having changed contracts with suppliers last September.

Ontario Health atHome says it is aware some patients have experienced issues with the distribution of medical supplies, adding anyone who has paid out of pocket due to delivery issues in September 2024 will be reimbursed.

Premier Ford had vowed to get to the bottom of the issue and the 2024 Ontario budget provided $2 billion over three years to expand home and community care services. The funding is intended to increase front-line workers and stabilize expanded services.
