Kitchener Rangers wobble over three-in-three weekend

The Kitchener Rangers were looking battle-worn over a tough weekend of games, resulting in just one win in three contests.

The Blueshirts kicked off the weekend with a tough matchup against the Brampton Steelheads at The Aud. The visitors scored four straight to open the contest and held onto that lead for an eventual 5-2 victory, snapping the Rangers’ six-game win streak.

On Saturday, the Rangers bounced back and got back to winning ways in Barrie with a 4-1 win against the Colts.

But on Sunday, the Saginaw Spirit made the trip to The Aud with a night off on Saturday, and looked the fresher side.

The Rangers pushed the game to overtime with a late equalizer from defenceman Cameron Reid, but the Spirit netted the winner in overtime to take a 4-3 victory home with them.

The Rangers remain in third place in the OHL with 62 points, sitting three points behind the league-leading London Knights.

The Rangers will take the week off to recover before hosting the Flint Firebirds at The Aud on Friday.
