Plans are well underway to repair and reopen the Home Hardware Building Centre in Ayr, which suffered extraordinary damage from a summertime tornado.
An EF2 touched down on the north side of Ayr on Aug. 17, tearing portions of the roof from the large home improvement store, and collapsing a wall.
A statement to 570 NewsRadio from Dealer-Owner, Jeff Seydel, says, “Currently our focus is on repairing the building…We are working diligently to evaluate our options, with hopes to reopen by the summer.”

It goes on to say none of the employees have lost their jobs, instead, they’ve been working at other Home Hardware locations.
But they’ll come back to the Ayr store as soon as possible.
Seydel says “Currently our focus is on repairing the building and ensuring our customers receive the exceptional service they have come to expect at our store.”
In late November, a spokesperson for the Township of North Dumfries confirmed the building department staff were working on a permit “for the rebuild/repair” of the store.

No one was hurt when the twister hit the town, knocking down trees, flipping over large boats on their trailers, and scattering extensive debris over the entirety of nearby Cowan Park.
