New Year’s Eve in Waterloo Region: Here’s what to do

It’s never too early to plan your New Year’s Eve festivities. If you’re looking for something for the whole family, the cities of Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge have you covered.

The largest party will happen in downtown Kitchener at Carl Zehr Square. The city has planned live music throughout the evening featuring tribute acts of some music’s biggest names. It culminates with a performance by ABBA Mania.

There will be games and free hot chocolate all evening as well – and don’t forget your skates. Weather permitting, free outdoor skating will be happening all evening as well.

Parents take note, there will be a kid friendly countdown and ball drop at 10 p.m. A second ball drop will happen at midnight as usual.

In Waterloo, the festivities run from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Waterloo Public Square. There will be free outdoor skating, music, crafts and hot apple cider.

Cambridge residents are invited to Hespeler Arena for an afternoon filled with music, games, skating and more. TEAM T&J’s Kids Jumpin’ Jamboree will be performing. Live music from Pete & Anna will entertain the kids through the afternoon. To burn up some of that extra energy, the kids can check out the Turbo Max inflatable obstacle course.

The cities are expecting a decent turnout so you are advised to take public transit when you can.

Be sure to check for road closures associated with the events.
