Kitchener Rangers get the shootout win against the Windsor Spitfires

It was a tough effort, but the Kitchener Rangers were able to pull out a victory on Saturday against the Windsor spitfires, with a 3-2 shootout win.

Tanner Lam got the scoring going in the first period to give the Rangers an early lead, but the Spitfires answered back with two goals from Ethan Martin and Ilya Protas before the end of the period.

Jack Pridham tied the game in the second period, scoring his fifth of the season. The game would remain tied through third period to force overtime, and then a shootout.

Trent Swick scored the lone goal in the shootout, to give Kitchener the win. 570 colour commentator Paul Fixter said the real hero of the game was goaltender, Jackson Parsons, who stopped 33/35 shots and was 3/3 in the shootout.

“Well how can you not acknowledge him when he leads in every statistical category for goaltenders,” said Fixter. Parsons leads the OHL in wins, save percentage, goals against average and shutouts.

“This guy is on a different level right now.”

The Rangers announced early Saturday morning before the game that head coach Jussi Ahokas would be flying back home to Finland to deal with an urgent family medical matter and will be away from the team for an undetermined amount of time.

The Rangers still sit in second place across the board; including the Midwest Division, Western Conference and overall in the OHL. Their record stands at 21-5-2-1.

The team now gets set to return to the Kitchener Aud on Friday as they welcome the visiting Kingston Frontenacs to town.
