Over 10,000 children will get a piece of local joy this year after a massive Teddy Bear Toss night in the books.
One of the largest crowds of the season comprised of 7,293 people, packed the Aud and made the fur fly as Luke Ellinas nabbed the first Kitchener Rangers goal Tuesday night.
A total of 10,409 bears landed on the ice Tuesday night.
570 NewsRadio Colour Commentator Paul Fixter said it was a pretty exciting Teddy Bear goal, coming five minutes into the second period on a breakaway.
“Somebody has to be the hero, and tonight it was Luke Ellinas who got the Teddy Bears flying and boy he was like a dog on a bone. When that turnover was created just inside the Rangers’ blueline, he took off and he let a bullet of a shot go.”
Some other highlights of the night came from defenceman Max Dirracolo, who recorded his first goal of the season, and from one of the newer faces on the team, Andrew Vermeulen, with both a goal and an assist.
The Kitchener Rangers are back at home Friday night, taking on the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds.
