Kitchener Rangers weather the storm to earn overtime win in Guelph

On Sunday afternoon, parts of Ontario were pelted by the season’s biggest winter storm. Inside the Sleeman Centre, the Kitchener Rangers were battling a different Storm.

The Blueshirts came out victorious in a Highway 7 rivalry matchup against the Guelph Storm, 3-2 the final after overtime.

The Storm came out hot in the first period and rallied the crowd behind them by jumping to a 2-0 lead.

The Rangers found their feet in the second and pulled the game level heading into the third period thanks to goals from wingers Trent Swick and Justin Bottineau.

It was a tightly contested matchup, with impressive goaltending play from Rangers goaltender Jackson Parsons and Storm netminder Brayden Gillespie.

Then, in overtime, Rangers defenceman Cameron Reid put the contest to bed with a beautifully-crafted one-timer fed by Jack Pridham, 3-2 the final.

The goal capped off an incredible week for Redi, who spent a couple of days away from the team at the CHL USA Prospects Game, showcasing the top prospects heading to the NHL draft this offseason.

“He’s a player, he’s a leader, he loves to play the game and he just oozes character and leadership, and boy, does he have fun,” said 570 Colour Commentator Paul Fixter about Reid after the game.

Next, the Rangers will host the Brantford Bulldogs at The Aud on Tuesday.
