A 66-year-old man now faces charges – following a reported collision that halted ION LRT service through Kitchener on Friday.
It was just after 4 p.m. when emergency crews responded to that crash, between an ION train and a school bus, in the area of Ottawa Street South near Maurice Street.
That collision and the following investigation halted ION service between Kitchener Market and Mill Stations. ION LRT service was restored just over an hour later.
Police report the bus did have children on board at the time of the crash. No physical injuries were reported as a result of the collision.
Providing an update on their investigation on Monday morning, police now say the driver of the involved school bus, a 66-year-old, has been charged with change lane – not in safety.
Any witnesses to the collision, or anyone with dashcam footage, is still encouraged to contact police at 519-570-9777 extension 4499.
