Laurier advances to Vanier for the first time since 2005

For the first time in almost 20 years, the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks will be playing for the Vanier Cup.

The Golden Hawks defeated the Bishop Gaiters in Quebec on Saturday in the Uteck Bowl 48-24 to punch their ticket to the national game.

Fourth-year quarterback Taylor Elgersma threw for five touchdown passes, completing 30-34 pass attempts and 452 yards.

The last time Laurier was in the Vanier Cup was back in 2005, which was also the last time they won the national title.

Laurier will take on Laval Rouge Et Or in the Vanier Cup on Saturday.
