Annual pumpkin walk ends in pieces at Fiddlesticks Community Centre

By Justine Fraser

Over 400 people donated pumpkins to Fiddlesticks Community Centre’s third annual Pumpkin Walk in Cambridge on Nov. 1.

But by early Saturday morning, most of those pumpkins were found smashed up on the ground next to a flipped-over trailer. The tires on the parked trailer were also reported as damaged.

Waterloo Regional Police confirmed to 570 NewsRadio that they are investigating the incident after receiving a report of property damage from the community centre on Cowan Boulevard.

Officials say it happened between 7:15 p.m. Nov. 1 and 8 a.m. Nov. 2.

The Pumpkin Walk is something they do to give pumpkins an “encore performance the entire neighbourhood could enjoy.” The pumpkins are lit up along a path near the community centre for community members to walk through with their families, getting to enjoy the Jack O’ Lanterns carved one more time.

Those pumpkins afterwards are typically sent to local farms and used to feed animals.
