A lockdown at the women’s prison in Kitchener is now over.
The lockdown was put in place at Grand Valley Institution back on Oct. 19, just over two weeks ago.
A release from Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) says the lockdown was put in place due to a security-related health and safety issue.
The CSC says it is “strengthening measures to prevent the entry of contraband into its institutions in order to ensure a safe and secure environment for everyone. CSC also works in partnership with the police to take action against those who attempt to have contraband brought into correctional institutions.”
That issue has now been resolved and its back to business as usual at the federal facility.
Visitors are also now permitted back in the building.
