A fire at a Kitchener playground has sparked public outcry including from city councillors.
According to police, the blaze occurred just after midnight Tuesday morning at a park in the area of Heritage Drive.
Speaking on the Mike Farwell Show, Ward 3 Councillor Jason Deneault expressed his frustration with the act.
“It angers me to no avail. I know playgrounds can be rebuilt, but what are people thinking? For anyone out there who’s thinking about burning stuff, give your head a shake.”
Deneault urged anyone who has issues with the city or a particular politician to reach out to them directly rather than resort to burning property. That sentiment was echoed by Ward 1 Councillor Scott Davey who took to social media expressing his sadness about what this damage will mean for local children.
Though on a positive note, he said quote, “We’re Kitchener.. we’ll rebuild.”
Regional police said no one was injured in the fire and an investigation has been opened into the cause.
