Pair of local bakers compete on Crime Scene Kitchen

By Justine Fraser

Two bakers from the region competed in the third season of Crime Scene Kitchen recently. Their episode airs Oct. 17 at 9 p.m. and the community will have to watch to see if they were able to win.

It all started when a person invited Lenore Johnson, owner of Lenjo Bakes, to be on Crime Scene Kitchen through social media, “sliding into her DM’s” as Johnson puts it – which Johnson did think was a joke at first but turns out that it was real. Soon after she signed up her friend and local baker Jessica Harrison, owner of the Cake Box.

They friends came up with a plan to divide the kitchen and conquer.

“Jess and I had a plan, we had watched the previous seasons, we divided the kitchen. Even though we run up the steps, Jess is on the left, I am on the right, we switch – I go through the left side of the kitchen and Jessica goes through the right. And were checking garbage’s, ovens, aprons,” said Johnson while on The Mike Farwell Show Oct. 17 with Harrison.

It is a scattered mess in the kitchen when they first step on set, trying to analyze ingredients used or not to figure out what was precisely made before them, which can range from savoury to sweet.

“It’s not just about it being delicious, which is always a bonus and we always made sure to do that, but it has to be on point,” said Harrison.

They were both happy to represent the region, noting to the hosts that it isn’t such a small town as described.

“I could talk about baking all day long. It’s another things to talk about baking and then going in and making the thing you said you were going to make and making sure it’s beautiful. You are in a kitchen you don’t know,” added Johnson.

Both found their first cooking competition together chaotic but would do it again.

Johnson was previously a judge on the show Wall of Bakers and said she preferred that better.

“It’s totally, totally different, being a contestant is much harder. I’ll say it all day long. I couldn’t even have my phone on set.”

They wouldn’t tell Farwell if they won or not, adding the community will have to watch this week to find out.
