Highway 401 westbound reopened following collision at Fountain Street, Homer Watson Boulevard

Highway 401 westbound has fully reopened following a nearly 8 hour closure due to a collision at the Fountain Street and Homer Watson Boulevard exit.

According to the OPP the initial crash occurred just before 4 a.m. Thursday morning.

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Highway Safety Division said the crash involved a transport truck and a sedan.

Sergeant Ted Dongelmans with the OPP Highway Safety Division said one person, the driver of the sedan, has been taken to a Hamilton area trauma centre in critical condition.

An update on social media posted shortly after 10 a.m., indicated the driver’s injuries could be life-altering.

The driver of the involved transport truck was not injured.

The westbound 401 fully reopened just after 12 p.m. Thursday afternoon.
