Ministry of Labour concludes investigation after Cambridge Zehrs employee found dead in walk-in freezer

The Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development has concluded it’s investigation into the death of an employee found dead inside a grocery store’s walk-in freezer.

The ministry determined the death was not a workplace fatality.

The incident occurred at a Zehrs located on Conestoga Boulevard near Dunbar Road in Cambridge on Oct 15. and the store was closed for a police investigation before reopening to the public on Oct 16.

Calls came in to the CityNews Kitchener newsroom the morning of the incident reporting a heavy police presence at the store.

According to regional police, the death was not criminal in nature.

In a statement to CityNews Kitchener, the ministry expressed condolences to the employee’s family when the incident initially happened.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the worker during this difficult time.”
