Drug users are being urged to take precautions in the wake of an overdose alert that’s been issued for the Guelph area.
On Friday, the Wellington Guelph Drug Strategy said there’s been at least nine reported drug poisonings in the first four days of October.
It’s believed the overdoses may be linked to a drug that’s light green or blue in colour, and is a mix of both fentanyl and an unidentified substance.
People who use recreational drugs are being reminded to never use alone, always carry naloxone, and visit a Consumption and Treatment Services (CTS) site.
The overdose alert comes as a similar warning remains in effect for Waterloo Region. It was initially issued in response to 41 reported overdoses and three deaths from Sept. 17 to Sept. 23.
That alert was then extended when three additional deaths were reported earlier this week.
“The Kitchener CTS Drug Checking Program found high potency Fentanyl, Oxazepam, Dexmedetomidine, and Paraflurofentanyl in samples over the last week,” read the extended community drug alert from the Waterloo Region Integrated Drugs Strategy. “Colours of concern are blue, yellow and neon green.”
