Pedestrian dies after crash in Guelph parking lot, police investigating

A pedestrian has died after they were hit by a vehicle in Guelph, while police continue to investigate.

The collision was reported Thursday afternoon around 3:30 p.m. on Eramosa Road, near Stevenson Street.

According to officials, a Chevrolet sedan was leaving the parking lot of a nearby retail store when it hit two people who were crossing the lot.

One of those individuals struck, a 72-year-old woman from Guelph, sustained severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. A 74-year-old Guelph man also sustained minor injuries, and was taken to Guelph General Hospital.

Eramosa Road was closed from Stevenson Street to Meyer Drive for the investigation. The road reopened shortly before 6:30 p.m.

The driver of the involved Chevrolet sedan, identified as a 94-year-old man from Guelph-Eramosa Township, remained at the scene and was said to be “cooperative.”
