Province invests millions in Cambridge drinking water infrastructure

A major investment is expected to help the City of Cambridge provide drinking water to existing residents and the many new housing developments currently underway.
Kitchener—Conestoga MPP and Minister of Red Tape Reduction, Mike Harris Jr. joined other local dignitaries to announce the $2.9 million from the Housing-Enabling Water System Fund.
The money will be used to help build a new G4A Well House at 39 Dianne St. in Cambridge.
The new pumping station will provide potable water to up to 2,700 homes, both existing and forthcoming.
Cambridge Mayor, Jan Liggett spoke at the announcement and said this funding is coming at a crucial time for the city.
“All municipalities are faced with the crisis of aging infrastructure, at the same time we’re stretched to provide for new neighbourhoods. We are so grateful that province recognizes our struggles by providing financial assistance for this project,” she said. “In order to continue building more homes faster, we need to take care to expand this critical infrastructure.”
The project is expected to get underway in the coming months and is scheduled to be completed by 2027.
