By Justin Koehler

A man was detained, but later released, following an investigation around a possible stabbing.

Guelph police were originally notified Tuesday afternoon at around 1:15 p.m. after a report came in of a woman in her 50s saying she had possibly been stabbed with a syringe.

Emergency services arrived on scene to a business in downtown Guelph and police began their investigtion, with the suspect in question, a man from Guelph, remaining at the scene. The man was detained, but insisted he never assaulted anyone.

Officers continued their investigation, turning to video surveillance that showed the exact moment the incident occured. After reviewing the footage, police saw that the suspect never actually touched or even interacted with the woman at all, with the true culprit being a bee.

The footage revealed that the woman had really just been stung, with paramedics on scene confirming the injury was consistent with a bee sting.

The suspect was released, but the bee in question is still at large.
