Historic cinema in Listowel closed after driver slammed into building

The oldest cinema in Canada, located in Listowel, is closed indefinitely because of a crash.

On Wednesday afternoon, a driver reportedly lost control of their vehicle and slammed into the side of the Capitol Twin Cinema on Wallace Avenue.

In a social media post, the cinema said there was considerable damage done to the car and to the building.

The damage was so bad, the post notes the cinema has to close indefinitely.

Dozens of comments on both the cinema’s Facebook and Instagram pages have been pouring in, with messages of support, and hope the buisness can reopen soon.

The driver, whom the cinema says is male, was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

No word on their injuries, or if charges will be laid.

570 NewsRadio has reached out to Ontario Provincial Police for more information.

The Capitol Twin Cinema was founded in 1908.
