‘Substantial progress’ made in Ayr post-tornado clean up efforts
There is still a lot to do, but a significant amount of work has already been done to clean up Ayr.
The Township of North Dumfries latest update boasts “substantial progress” in clearing Greenfield Road of tree debris.
Saturday’s EF1 tornado tore through just over a 5 kilometre stretch of the town, primarily in the Greenfield Road area between Trussler Road and Northumberland Street.

Although the road is open and clear, people will still see tree stumps and tree balls on the side, with grinding crews expected to handle that load in the coming days.

There is still no reopening time for Cowan Park or the outdoor areas at the North Dumfries Community Complex. Significant clean up efforts are needed there including the use of a rolling magnet looking for small metal debris such as nails.
Meticulous search efforts for small pieces of glass will also take some time through Cowan park, the dog park, community garden, and beach volleyball courts.
The buildings in the area also still undergoing structural assessments though the Community Complex itself is open.
The update reads, “Building Division personnel are working with the most impacted property owners concerning structural assessments, and where applicable, expediting the issuance of Demolition Permits.”
Although Greenfield road is open, you are still being asked to avoid Greenfield between Trussler and Northumberland as crews continue to work in the area.
