K-W Oktoberfest announces Jack Armstrong as Grand Marshal for parade

Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest will have a familiar voice, as the event announces Jack Armstrong will be the official 2024 Grand Marshal for the Thanksgiving Day Parade.

The well-know sportscaster is currently the voice for the Toronto Raptors on TSN and NBA TV Canada. He is also the college basketball analyst for TSN and a former coach.

“I’m so excited and honoured to be chosen as Grand Marshal for the Oktoberfest parade,” Armstrong said in a press release. “I’ve heard so many wonderful things about the festival from my friends in the Kitchener-Waterloo area and I’m thrilled to be taking part in such an iconic traditional event.”

Festhallen tickets are already on sale and there will be free entertainment and fun programming at Willkommen Platz in downtown Kitchener on Thanksgiving weekend.

The parade is set to start an hour later this year, at 9:30 a.m., allowing parade goers to sleep-in a bit more on their holiday Monday.

“Having a personality like Jack Armstrong as our Grand Parade Marshal, with his enthusiasm and connection to the sports community, will undoubtedly make the parade even more special,” Tracy Van Kalsbeek, Executive Director for K-W Oktoberfest, said.

The organization is also opening up nominations for a Local Parade Marshal. The contest is open until Sept. 2.
