Correctional Service of Canada investigating after inmate dies at women’s prison in Kitchener

The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) is investigating after an inmate at a women’s prison in Kitchener died while in custody on Wednesday.

The Grand Valley Institution inmate, Wanetta Generoux, died of apparent natural causes according to the CSC.

At the time of their death, they were serving a nearly five-year sentence for robbery and had been incarcerated since November of 2023.

The CSC investigate all instances of inmate death, reviewing the circumstances of the incident.

Police, the coroner and next of kin have been notified.
