Cambridge Brass workers’ strike approaches two weeks

More than 100 workers from a Cambridge manufacturing plant are out on strike, and still picketing, as they approach the two-week mark of their labour action.

A statement from United Steel Workers, Local 4045, said their members went out on strike on July 19 “in an effort to win respect for seniority rights, improved pensions and fair wages.”

The union said they’re seeking wage and pension improvements, and the right to bid on which of the three daily shifts they want to work, based on seniority —  something they used to be able to do before a change in company policy.

The statement from local president, Jim Clegg, reads, “It’s not just about the money; we want respect as well. These workers deserve something in return for all the sacrifices made during COVID, keeping this company going.”

The workers make brass fittings for outdoor waterworks, it reads. The longest serving employee has been with Cambridge Brass for 51 years.

The union vowed to maintain a 24/7 picket outside the plant at 140 Orion Pl., near Clyde Road and Franklin Boulevard.

570 NewsRadio has reached out to Cambridge Brass for a statement.
