EJ’s Tavern at the Baden Hotel celebrates 150th birthday

It’s a milestone for one of the oldest restaurants in Wilmot Township.

EJ’s Tavern at the Baden Hotel in Baden are celebrating their 150th birthday on Monday following a community family event on the weekend.

Abhay Patel has been the owner of EJ’s for the last eight years and said the celebration was a “massive” event that was a chance to bring the community together.

“We hear a lot of stories about people who have been here generationally.. they remember running though as kids and they tell us stories,” said Patel. “There’s a lot of new people in town (Baden), so I think it will be a good introduction.”

Amy Mansbridge, the front of house manager, has been at the restaurant for 14 years and said Saturday’s event was really fun to plan and saw a number of regulars in attendance.

“We’re kind of like Cheers, we’re a small town and have a lot of regulars that come here, so it should bring everyone together,” said Mansbridge.

Saturday’s birthday bash included live music, a BBQ party with hamburgers, hotdogs and a limited bar, as well as activities for the kids including face painting, balloon animals, snow cones and an obstacle course.

The Baden Hotel and Tavern first opened their doors on July 22 1874. On their website, they say they are “the longest continually operating dining establishment in Southern Ontario.”
